๐Ÿ”ธ Hilsa Roe (Ilish Machher Dim) โ€“ 200g
๐Ÿ”ธ Mustard Seeds (Sorshe) โ€“ 3 tbsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Poppy Seeds (Posto) (Optional) โ€“ 1 tbsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Green Chilies (Kancha Lanka) โ€“ 4-5, slit
๐Ÿ”ธ Turmeric Powder (Haldi) โ€“ ยฝ tsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Salt โ€“ To taste
๐Ÿ”ธ Mustard Oil (Sarso Tel) โ€“ 4 tbsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Yogurt (Dahi) (Optional) โ€“ 2 tbsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Coconut Paste (Optional) โ€“ 2 tbsp
๐Ÿ”ธ Banana Leaves (For Wrapping, Optional)


๐Ÿ”ฅ Cooking Process

Step 1: Preparing the Mustard Paste

1๏ธโƒฃ Soak mustard seeds and poppy seeds in warm water for 15 minutes.
2๏ธโƒฃ Grind them into a fine paste with a little water and 2 green chilies.

Step 2: Marinating the Roe

3๏ธโƒฃ Wash the Hilsa roe thoroughly and pat it dry.
4๏ธโƒฃ Marinate with turmeric, salt, and mustard paste.
5๏ธโƒฃ Add yogurt (if using) and mix well. Let it rest for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Preparing for Steaming

6๏ธโƒฃ Take a heatproof container or banana leaf wrap (traditional style).
7๏ธโƒฃ Coat with mustard oil, place the marinated roe, and top with slit green chilies.
8๏ธโƒฃ Drizzle the remaining mustard oil for added flavor.

Step 4: Steaming the Dish

9๏ธโƒฃ Place the container in a steamer or use the traditional double-boiling method in a large pan with water.

Step 5: Serving
