Ilish Macher Dim-er Paturi is a traditional Bengali delicacy where hilsa roe is marinated with aromatic spices, wrapped in banana leaves, and steamed to perfection. The result is an exquisite, flavorful dish that melts in your mouth.

200g Hilsa Roe (Ilish Macher Dim)

2 tbsp Mustard Seeds (soaked & ground into a paste)

2 tbsp Poppy Seeds (soaked & ground into a paste)

Β½ cup Grated Coconut
β
2-3 Green Chilies (finely chopped)

1 tbsp Mustard Oil

Β½ tsp Turmeric Powder
β
Β½ tsp Red Chili Powder (optional)

Salt to taste

4 Banana Leaves (cut into square pieces)

2 tbsp Mustard Oil (for greasing)

Thread or Toothpicks (for securing)
πΉ Gently heat the banana leaves over an open flame for a few seconds until they become soft and pliable.
πΉ Brush each leaf with mustard oil to prevent sticking.
πΉ In a bowl, mix the hilsa roe with mustard paste, poppy seed paste, grated coconut, green chilies, mustard oil, turmeric, chili powder, and salt.
πΉ Let it marinate for 15-20 minutes for deeper flavors.
πΉ Take a banana leaf, place a portion of the marinated roe in the center.
πΉ Fold the leaf carefully into a packet and secure it with a thread or toothpick.
πΉ Heat a pan and drizzle a little mustard oil.
πΉ Place the wrapped packets on low flame, cover, and cook for 10-12 minutes on each side.
πΉ Alternatively, you can steam the packets for 20 minutes in a steamer.
πΉ Carefully unwrap the packets, and enjoy the rich, flavorful Ilish Macher Dim-er Paturi with hot steamed rice.
